Beginning with her early days in Southern California, comedian Margaret Cho has always been the Agent Provocateur of stand up. Never one to shy away from a taboo topic, there are literally no subjects off limits. Her socially aware, no-holds-barred brand of comedy has made her both a thought leader and a tolerant teacher to those with open minds and open hearts.

An accomplished performer in all formats, Margaret has conquered the worlds of film, television, books, music and theatre. Having been nominated for three Grammy Awards and one Emmy Award, her comedy tours are a constant sell-out both here and abroad. She’s had two shows debut Off-Broadway (I'm The One That I Want and The Sensuous Woman) and her last stand-up, psyCHO, was filmed at the historic Gramercy Theatre in New York City.

The film and DVD releases of Margaret’s comedy shows have broken records, with I'm The One That I Want still holding the title for ‘Most Money Grossed Per Print’ for an independent film. Her other releases, which Cho fans collect and swap with zeal, include Notorious C.H.O (2001), Assassin (2005),  (2003), Beautiful (2009) and Cho Dependent (2011) and psyCHO (2015).  Since 1999, Margaret has been responsible for the distribution and sales of all her content via her own Clownery label.

Margaret has made an indelible mark in television as well, starting in 1994 with the network comedy All American Girl, followed by one of the first “reality sitcoms,” The Cho Show on VH1, six seasons on the Lifetime series Drop Dead Diva and one season of TLC’s late night show, All About SEX.   This year Margaret is a special guest host on E!’s Fashion Police, covering the 2016 award shows, and she is currently developing “Highland,” an hour long dramedy for Amazon about a woman who, after completing a court-0rdered rehab, gets a chance to start over by moving in with her (dysfunctional) family who run a pot dispensary.

And then there’s the music career; encouraged by the acclaim her Grammy nominated (and self released) Cho Dependent record received, Margaret, who took both vocal and music lessons to make sure she could keep up with all lauded performers on the album, was enthusiastic to begin working on fresh music. American Myth, the follow up to Cho Dependent, is the first collection of new music from Margaret in 6 years. She has already debuted three music videos: “Ron’s Got a DUI” [https://goo.gl/8j3SgH], “Fat Pussy” [https://goo.gl/B6rfER] and the controversial “(I Want To) Kill My Rapist” [https://goo.gl/SMuKhA].  Salon magazine called the song “A new anthem” and UK’s The Guardian reminded anyone who was offended that “Cho is famed for her boldness, her taboo-breaking humour.” Margaret spoke to Billboard about the song saying, “I’m a victim, and now a survivor, of sexual abuse and rape, and I think it’s really hard to talk about it. I think having a song to perform live will allow others to talk about it. It’s a huge issue, and this was cathartic for me.”

American Myth, set for an April 29th release, was made with her longtime collaborator Garrison Starr, and showcases Margaret’s first efforts as a composer. Margaret says the album is “my glamorous and glittering tribute to family, comedy, anger, fame, gayness, grief, fat pride, love and hate.”

With so much success in her artistic life, Margaret has never turned away from the causes that are important to her. She is incredibly active in anti-racism, anti-bullying, advocating for the homeless and gay rights campaigns, and has been recognized for her unwavering dedication over the years with many accolades and awards. From her activism to her music to her stand up, Margaret is honest, forthright, passionate, uproarious, raucous, bold and unyielding: Margaret Cho is at her very best.
Margaret Cho:

Beginning with her early days on the scene in SoCal, comedian Margaret Cho has always been the Agent Provocateur of stand up. Never one to shy away from a difficult, or even 'taboo' topic, there is no subject off limits. Her socially aware brand of comedy has made her both a thought leader as well as a teacher to those with open minds and open hearts.

An accomplished performer in all formats, Cho could be called the  “Queen of all Media,” having conquered the worlds of film, television, books and theatre. She has three Grammy Award nominations for Best Comedy Album under her belt. Her tours sell-out, and she’s had two shows debut Off-Broadway (I'm The One That I Want and The Sensuous Woman). She has made an indelible mark in television, starting in 1994 with the network comedy All American Girl, followed by one of the first “reality sitcoms” to air on VH1, The Cho Show and most recently starring in the Lifetime series Drop Dead Diva for all six seasons. The film and DVD releases of her stand up have broken records – literally, with I'm The One That I Want holding the title for ‘most money grossed per print’ for an independent film. Her other releases, which Cho fans collect and swap with zeal, include Notorious C.H.O (2001), Assassin (2005), Revolution (2003), Beautiful (2009) and Cho Dependent (2011). Since 1999, Margaret has been responsible for the distribution and sale of all her content.

Cho also played North Korean leader Kim Jong Il on 30 Rock, which garnered her an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series. Along with writing and recording a follow up to the Cho Dependent music album, Margaret set out on tour with her show, Mother, which began in late summer, 2012 and included both a US and European Tour.

In the spring of 2014, Margaret wrapped filming on the pilot episode of Cabot College with 30 Rock pals Tina Fey and Matt Hubbard. “I am so honored and elated to be a part of this incredible project and I know everyone is going to fall madly in love with this show! Also I get to work with my hero Tina Fey!! It’s a dream come true!”

Equally as important to her as her work in entertainment is the causes she is passionate about. Margaret has been widely recognized for her work in the non-profit sector, lending her name, time and tireless work ethic to several charities, especially those involving gay rights and anti-bullying campaigns. In every segment of her life, Margaret is honest, adoring, passionate, uproarious and always entertaining. Margaret Cho is at her very best.
